TRAGEDY struck just minutes into Cowaramup’s 24 hour Delirium cycling race on Saturday when participant and Busselton Cycle Club member Malcolm ‘Hoppy’ Hopkins collapsed off his bike.

Mr Hopkins was unconscious and not breathing when paramedics arrived at the scene, and was later pronounced dead at Margaret River hospital.
Early reports suggest Mr Hopkins suffered a brain aneurysm.
After a short delay it was decided the Delirium would continue in honour of Mr Hopkins, and a memorial lap of the course was held after the event finished on Sunday morning.
Busselton Cycle Club president Wayne Flynn said Mr Hopkins would be very proud to know they had continued the event when he addressed the crowd before the memorial lap.
Delirium organiser Brendon Morrison said it was a great tragedy for the entire community.
“The event has lost one of its legends, the South West cycling community has lost one of it's most respected members, but moreover a young family has lost their father, all of our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Mr Morrison said.
