People began arriving before sunrise to get the best viewing spots on what was one of the coldest mornings for the state this year, with temperatures down to 5.5 degrees in the area.
Some even made an effort to dress for the William and Catherine, with children dressed in Disney princess outfits and some adults donning old-fashioned gowns.
The crowds were rewarded for their patience when the Royal couple finally appeared just after 11am following their arrival at the Edinburgh RAAF base.
The couple were cheered as they stepped out of their vehicles outside the Playford Civic Centre and took a tour to meet onlookers, accepting flowers, shaking hands and posing for crowd photos as they went.

After the reception, Kate and William greeted 100-year-old Monica Swarbrick outside the civic centre, before leaving for the airport.
"The duke wished me a happy birthday," said Ms Swarbrick.
