Central News Bunbury beat six other finalists across the state to be named Newsagent of the Year by the WA branch of the Australian Newsagents’ Federation.
Owner Ian Cross impressed customers by dressing up as Redfoo for a promotion earlier this year.
Mr Cross, along with his wife and co-owner Suzanne and staff, also impressed industry judges to take out the award for the second year in a row.
The award was recognition for the support received from the Bunbury community, Mr Cross told business.
“I think that a lot of people like to shop locally and we do provide a service for that,” Mr Cross said.
“They can walk off the street into our shop and have the items they need right away.”
His brief stint as a pop star showed him the value of a quirkier approach to business.
“It’s great to create a bit of fun and something a little different in the store from time to time – and customers do like the idea of something a little different.”
