Family-run Caf-Fez has done it again, winning coffee shop of the year in the state’s most prestigious hospitality accolades – the Gold Plate Awards.
Assistant manager Jasmine Karati said the crew “danced up the red carpet” to accept their award.
The win takes the business’s plates to two.
Owners Georgina and Michael Grove and staff took on other regional cafes in Mandurah and Torbay and metropolitan coffee shops in Fremantle and Rockingham in a glitzy culinary night in Perth on Monday.
The Groves, who took over the business in 2007, won a plate in their first year of operation.

Miss Karati joined the team two years ago.
She said beating metro cafes in Fremantle was a proud moment.
“It just shows that we’re a regional town but we have what it takes to compete with metro cafes,” Miss Karati told the Bunbury Mail.
Part of the judging process looked at the experience each cafe offered customers.
Miss Karati said the frequency of regulars was testament to what Caf-Fez offered.
“We even have a couple of blokes come down from Perth – they come down every second weekend for a roadtrip and stop in every single time for our Coconut Mocha,” she said.
“They told us that they keep coming back because they always feel welcome and are never disappointed.
“We really try to make you feel special, and that’s the point I think.”
Mr Grove said the crew were planning to run again next year.
