A VISIT from Prime Minister Tony Abbott this weekend will be the first time an Australia leader has visited the city since Bob Hawk 26 years ago.
The Bunbury Mail understands that Mr Abbott is expected to first make a stop at Payne Park for Relay for Life sometime on Sunday morning.
An invitation sent out to local dignitaries by Forrest MP Nola Marino shows the PM is then scheduled to attend a community morning tea at the Bunbury Football Club function room from 10am.
The event is open to the public, but a source said it would require an RSVP because numbers were restricted.
Mr Abbott will make a third stop at an invitation-only business lunch at the Lighthouse Beach Resort.
According to the invitation a table will set attendees back $3500, or $350 per person.
Bunbury Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive officer Ray Philp received an invitation to both events on Monday morning.
Mr Philp told the Mail that the visit would be "great exposure" for the city following investment in a variety of industries.
"Any exposure helps put Bunbury on the map and certainly from our point of view we'd be wanting to take the opportunity to ask the PM questions about business in Bunbury,” Mr Philp said.
“It will definitely carry the momentum in business recently, it has been a continuous focus on the area - from the recent announcement from V and V Walsh, Harvey fresh, Harvey Beef and the icing on the cake is the investment in Vue Group."
"Speaking with the PM or anyone from Canberra is an opportunity too good to miss.”
Nola Marino's office could not confirm Mr Abbott's visit.
The Mail understands Mr Abbott may visit Albany's Anzac Convoy Commemoration, which will remember the first convoy of Australian troops leaving our shores for World War I.
