FROM next week the Throssell Street speed limit will be reduced to 40 kilometres an hour.
The speed reduction was approved by the Minster for Transport in response to concerns raised by Council and local MP Mick Murray.
Shire president Wayne Sanford said he was glad the changes were being implemented.
"Council has been pursuing a number of safety initiatives along Throssell Street over the past 12 months and I am glad to see that the efforts of Council and our staff are finally coming to fruition," he said.
"The speed reduction is just one part of a number of safety initiatives to better protect local motorists in our community."
A painted median island between Harvey and Pendleton streets was installed last week, which will assist with traffic calming through town and also allow for the installation of additional pedestrian crossings at Lefroy and Pendleton streets in the next few weeks.
A school crossing will also be constructed near the Heritage Railway Station and will have an attendant supplied by the WA Police before and after school.
"We plan to have most of these safety improvements completed before the end of the year, however the section between Pendleton and Burt streets will not be completed until February next year to coincide with the planned completion of the truck bay," Cr Sanford said.
