GREENBUSHES Primary School students will evacuate to the District Hall in Greenbushes in the event of a bushfire or emergency.
The school has completed a Bushfire and Emergency Action Plan in conjunction with the Western Australian Department of Education and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
Students have been carrying out mock emergency evacuations to ensure they are aware of the procedures in the event of a fire.
School Principal Roger Foster said parents were being advised of the emergency arrangements to ensure the school community was aware of the procedure and that their children would be relocated to the hall in the event of fire.
Mr Foster said the school was located on a no-through road with forested areas nearby, which increased the risks if a fire should start near the town site.
“It is also a timely reminder to parents to ensure they have their own bushfire action plans in place,” he said.
“By increasing the awareness of our students we are also hoping this reinforces the message to parents to have things in place for their own homes and properties,” he said.
