Working with the Licensing Enforcement Division, officers from the South West executed a number of search warrants this week, including one on a property in College Grove on Tuesday.

A 43 year old man has been charged with 13 counts of possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition, 4 counts of unlicensed person selling firearms and ammunition, one count of defacing the identification mark on a firearm and two counts of failing to ensure safekeeping of a firearm or ammunition.

It will also be alleged that recently the man has sold and unlawfully supplied a high powered firearm and ammunition.

The firearm and ammunition included 250 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 270 rounds of .243 calibre ammunition and a .243 calibre Browning BAR Semi-Automatic (high powered) rifle.

Superintendent Hatch said every illegal firearm is a risk to the community and he encouraged the community to contact police if they have any information.

“Now that the firearms are in our possession, further enquiries will be made into their origin and how they came to be in the South West," he said.

"Already we have identified that one of the firearms was in the eastern states in the in the 1990’s and we’ll work with that police jurisdiction to see if they have further information that can assist with this investigation”.

The man is due to appear in the Bunbury Magistrates Court on February 5.
