AT 3.30am on December 30 my alarm goes off, and its time to head to the airport and make tracks to the Gold Coast for a couple of busy weeks.
Rounds one and two of the Australian National Probikes tour kicks off at the Nerang BMX club on the Goldy.
I’m seven weeks into my biggest preseason training block to date, and I was excited to throw in a race not even half way through preseason to keep it fresh and feed my love for the competition.
January 2 and 3 the race took place, with record numbers and a really high profile class for the elite women.
I returned home from the USA in early November to recover from a fractured scapular in my back/shoulder and get a head start on a big building pre-season block after missing it completely in early 2014 due to my knee reconstruction.
My first race on the US circuit and major international event kicks off in mid-March, so I’m really aiming for this date to be in the best shape of my life after finally getting some solid work in with my new coach Sean Dwight.
The seven weeks I’ve done so far back at home in Bunbury have been so refreshing and enjoyable.
I’m training most days at Denning Boxing with their high equipped professional training facilities and also doing a little barista work on the side to feed my love for coffee and interacting with people – this has also been a huge key to having a healthy balance with BMX and having some other distractions in my life.
The Gold Coast was a treat as always, besides the crazy humidity, it’s always hot and loads of fun.
We had a big three days racing, the first two rounds of the national series and the Nerang nationals on the final day.
It was a pretty successful weekend for me; I walked away with two second place finishes and a sixth.
I had some really good laps and won almost every one of my qualifying races.
We had a massive field of talent this year with some of the top international riders over for the race, which made it more exciting and brought the pressure even higher.
Following the race weekend we had our first Australia team camp of the year.
It’s the official kick off to the Rio journey now so it was great to all come together for the week, have some laughs, build our team standards and do some training together.
Its all go now and I’m excited to start the journey.
