Collie Shire Council has awarded the contract to local business, Coalcliff Plant Hire to deliver the Forrest Street upgrade project.
BGC Constructions was awarded the contract to build a new 72 place child care centre on Throssell Street.
The Forrest Street project, which will cost $1.6 million includes improvements to the PCYC car park, the Senior Citizens access and parking, access and parking for the new art gallery and a new parking area next to the Rolling Stock Shed.
The new parking facilities will provide greater convenience to access the CBD facilities.
Supertowns Project Manager, Geoff Klem said the area will be completely transformed.
“The area will look very different by mid-year and we will be scheduling components to minimise disruption to retailers in the area.”
“This is a huge project to make a difference in the town,” he said.
The $2.2 million child care centre, which will be managed by Collie Early Education Inc, replaces the 42 place centre in Forrest Street which will be demolished to make way for the Central Park project.
The centre will accommodate children aged 0-5 years old and will be completed this year.
“This project will support mothers who wish to re-enter the workforce,” Mr Klem said.
Shire President Cr Wayne Sanford said that the projects are the next increment in the CBD revitalisation program.
"These projects will further enhance the town's attractiveness as a place to live, visit and invest." he said.
“I am particularly pleased with the new and expanded child care facility which will support women in participating in the work force."
Cr Sanford also said he was looking forward to the completion of the new art gallery along with the parking and access improvements. The gallery is scheduled for completion next month.
