The state will receive $1.9 billion of the $6.4 billion set to be paid by WA taxpayers in the 2015/2106 financial year which equates to 30 cents of every dollar of GST raised.
Compare this to South Australia which will receive $5.5 billion in 2015/2016 - close to triple of what Western Australia will get. South Australia has around two thirds the population of Western Australia.
Tasmania, which has just a fifth of WA's population, will also get more GST revenue than WA in 2015 - of around $2.1
South Australia, with two-thirds of WA’s population, will receive nearly triple the amount of GST, or more than $5.5 billion, that WA gets in 2015-16.
Tasmania, with one-fifth of WA’s population, will receive $300 million more GST than WA at around $2.1 billion. Western Australia is the only state to see a fall in GST revenue in absolute terms this year.
Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey said the Government's one-off GST rescue package of $499 million for road projects in WA would help offset WA's losing more of its GST revenue.
Mr Hockey said more one-off assistance packages might be on the table for WA until its GST share recovers.
Next year WA's share in the GST will rise to 32 cents in the dollar, amounting to $2.2 billion, while in 2017-18 it will grow to 38 cents in the dollar before a sharp rise to 52 cents in the dollar, or $4.1 billion, in 2018-19.
