A 60 year old taxi driver contacted police just after 10pm on Saturday night and alleged that one of his passengers punched him in the face and exited the cab without paying the fare.
The taxi driver told police he had picked up four men from Mondak Place in Carey Park and driven them to a house in Doolan Street, Carey Park where the assault occurred.
Bunbury Police attended the scene of the incident and spoke to three of the passengers, with the fourth passenger believed to be involved in the assault having left the area.
The police dog squad with PD Geoffrey arrived and tracked the man to some bushes a short distance away.
After the man was located he initially complied with police instructions to lay on the ground until officers could reach him. However, just before officers could apprehend him he jumped to his feet and ran.
Officers issued a challenge for the man to stop, before deploying PD Geoffrey who followed the man over a side fence and detained him a short distance away.
A 21 year old man from McKail is currently assisting police with their investigation into the alleged assault
