The 8.5 tonne boiler of the train was crane lifted from the Centre and then transported for the repairs.
The boiler will undergo ultrasonic testing to find out exactly what repairs are needed.
Upon the return of the boiler, it will be lifted back on to the frames and then begins the job of replacing all of the dismantled parts and bolting everything toge-ther.
While the boiler is off, Rail Heritage WA and other South West Rail and Heritage Centre volunteers will give the frame and running gear a thorough clean and inspection to ensure that everything under the boiler is ready for action.
With the boiler off, it is a great chance for the public to see the steam locomotive’s underlay.
The South West Rail and Heritage Centre will be holding an open day on July 26 from 10am to 2pm.
