SOUTH West high school students will continue to gain invaluable experience behind the wheel, helping to lower the number of deaths and accidents on Western Australian roads.
The South West Youth Driver Development Program welcomed the continuing support of the RAC after $40,000 a year was promised for the next three years.
The program is run out of Bunbury with the aim to cut the number of young people injured or killed on WA roads as a result of poor driving habits.
It develops positive and safe attitudes to driving as well as teaching basic driving skills which focus on positive attitudes and safe behaviours.
It also aims to train parents, grandparents or guardians to become mentors by encouraging them to come along with the child to the training modules.
Students also learn about the more practical side of looking after a car such as tyres and basic motor checks.
The program is extended to all South West high schools and although places are limited, more than 3,500 students have passed through the training.
