The organisation is currently on the lookout for foster carers for dogs, cats, and rabbits in all areas.
SAFE Bunbury President Mark Townsend said the organisation is in need of foster carers in the region to provide homes for animals whilst they try to re-home them.
Mr Townsend said there are some requirements for those applying to become foster carers.
“If fostering dogs, then we ask that they have reasonably high fences for obvious reasons.
“We try to match animals with foster carers, as many of our foster carers have their own pets.
“For example if we have a dog that is not particularly fond of cats, we would not home it with a foster carer who has cats,” he said.
SAFE are an organisation that aims at rehoming and rescuing unwanted and neglected animals, and SAFE Bunbury is a branch of the organisation which was originally founded in the Pilbara in 2003.
Since then branches of the organisation have opened up across the state and as a result, thousands of animals have been saved from euthanasia.
Mr Townsend said the team at SAFE Bunbury work with foster carers to ensure animals stay in adequate accommodation before a forever home is located.
“SAFE Bunbury are one of the larger branches of SAFE, we are run by a team of volunteers, and we manage our own fundraising and work tirelessly to rehome the animals that come into our care.
“We have a network of foster carers who selflessly allow our animals to stay in their homes until a permanent home is found for them,” he said.
You can also become a member of SAFE without fostering and help out with fundraising events and matching animals with suitable homes.
SAFE promotes saving homeless pets from unnecessary euthanasia by fostering, sterilisation and permanently rehoming them, and to reduce the overpopulation of pets by promoting responsible pet ownership and pet sterilisation.
Mr Townsend said the team are currently facing the challenge of homing older pets, in particular cats.
“Our biggest challenge is finding foster care for some of our older cats, everybody love the cute fluffy kittens, but some of our older feline ladies and gentlemen struggle to find that elusive permanent home,” he said.
In addition to foster carers, Mr Townsend said there are a team of volunteers behind the scenes who help to keep SAFE running smoothly.
“We have a team of kennel hands, fantastic people who give up their time to feed, and exercise dogs at our kennel facility, which is used for the short term care of dogs that come into our care whilst we assess their temperament and allow time for their immunizations to kick in.”
“SAFE Bunbury are committed to keeping animals out of cages, and in loving homes.
“We are growing all the time, and we would love to see some foster carers come on board in the Collie and surrounding area.
“It's a simple equation, the more foster carers we have then the more animals are saved,” he said.
