FACILITIES that will form an “integral part of Bunbury’s sporting and community fabric” will be looked after in the 2015/16 Budget, with a water playground, multi-sports pavilion and museum/heritage centre attracting significant funding.
Work has already begun on the $4m Hay Park Multi-Sports Pavilion with construction to be completed this financial year, delivering a facility that will be home to high level rugby and soccer fixtures.
The pavilion will also be available for other community groups to utilise.
A planned water playground on the Leschenault Inlet has been allocated $1m to go towards the first stage of a project that has already attracted strong community input.
The family-focused area will include a splash pad, play zone and picnic areas with the City of Bunbury also seeking funding from other sources to help deliver the project.
The city’s history will go on display with $375,000 budgeted for the final fit-out of the Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre at the former Paisley Centre.
Exhibition and display material, along with specialised lighting, will help transform the old school building into a museum for the community to be proud of.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said these major projects would benefit the community for many years to come.
“It is important that facilities such as these are supported by the City as they help to form an integral part of Bunbury’s sporting and community fabric,” Mr Brennan said.
“I am sure that when completed these fantastic facilities will add to the city’s diversity and vibrancy for residents and visitors alike.”
Other spending in the community and sporting sector includes $200,000 for the upgrade of a sporting pavilion as identified in the Hay Park Master Plan, and $200,000 in events grants to community groups.
