Doctor Amanda Sabel and her family have been in Collie for one month, and said they are enjoying the community so far.
Originally from London, Doctor Sabel had spent the past 18 months working in remote Zululand, South Africa where she was a part of a team of 10-23 doctors, providing care for around 120,000 people for a government hospital.
Although Doctor Sabel had never been to Australia previously to accepting the job, she said she wanted to go somewhere that would provide quality education options for her five year old son.
“I’ve found the town nice so far, it is very different from where I was working in Africa,” she said.
“It’s nice for Collie to have a female GP and we are hoping to get organised to do some Obstetrics in town.”
Doctor Sabel brings a wealth of experience to the role, undertaking her medical training in London; she then completed two years as a surgery intern.
She then went on to work in the emergency department of Kings College Hospital in London, before training as a GP and moving South Africa to work in a government hospital.
