BUNBURY riders enjoyed plenty of success on the BMX track on Saturday when the Bunbury BMX Club hosted the 2015 State Championships.
The event saw hundreds of keen riders flock to Bunbury to claim a title in their class.
Although no one from Bunbury finished with a first place, the club did boast a number of podium finishes.
Club president Elizabeth Edwards said the event had been well received from riders and spectators.
“According to the feedback we’re getting it’s the best state champs to date,” she said.
“We put a lot of time and effort into the event so it’s nice that it all paid off.”
Mrs Edwards said the Bunbury riders showed a tremendous amount of effort.
“We saw some really good results with a lot of our riders making it through to quarter finals and semi finals,” she said.
“We had about 70 club riders on the track and we’re very proud of each of them.”
In the Men’s Elite class, Bunbury’s Jaymin King put in a terrific performance to finish second to Aaron Nottle of Hills BMX Club.
In the junior ranks, Braiden Abrahamse finished fifth in the 10s boys category while Daniel Doran finished fifth in the 11s boys.
Lucy O’Neill (sixth) and Izabelle Fitzgerald (fifth) picked up places in the 8s and 9s girls respectively while Mikaela Neill finished fourth in the 11s girls.
Jordan Rodwell and Cory Crombie teamed up to finish fifth and sixth respectively in the 12s boys while Kyle Munday finished sixth out of 31 riders in the 13s boys.
Jaxon Sawyer placed eighth in the 14s boys while Chanel Abrahamse picked up third place in the 15s girls.
Matthew Fitzgerald was the fourth best of 14 riders in the 15s boys while Lachlan Rodwell ended his final in sixth in the 16s boys.
Moving into seniors, Bethany Stone claimed a seventh place finish in the 17-29 women while Bunbury’s Liesha Sunderland ended the 30 and above women’s race in fourth.
Matthew Blake starred for Bunbury in the 17-24 men’s category finishing just shy of a top three finish and ending in fourth, while Jamie Lewis ran eighth in the 25-39 men.
The 50-plus men’s class saw Bunbury’s Jason Palmer finish in third while Bailey Davis placed eighth in the men’s junior level.
