WA Senior cricketers and supporters congregated at Donnybrook for the annual get together and grudge match from January 23-24.
The recent success of the National Championships in Hobart and the upcoming 2016 Championships in Perth were the main topic of conversation at the event.
Seniors cricket in WA accommodates both over sixties and seventies players, with several games scheduled during the season. Three over sixty sides and one over seventy are selected to compete at the National Championships each year.
The Championships are held in a different State each year and it is WA's turn in November 2016.
Players that represent WA come from all over the State, including from Albany, Hopetoun, Northam, Busselton, Donnybrook, Bunbury and Perth.
Players of all levels of fitness and ability combine to play and enjoy not only the competitive nature inherent in all cricketers but also the very social side that comes with age, and maturity!
The Donnybrook weekend is scheduled to coincide with the start of Country Week and enables games to be played on well-prepared turf wickets at the picturesque Egan Park.
A big thank you to the Donnybrook cricket club for the amenities provided and to the volunteers who prepare the wickets.
The weekend is a great success with the games played on a city versus country theme--- country so far well ahead on the score card.
This year, the championships in Perth give new players the chance to experience seniors cricket at home without travelling interstate.
