While multi-million dollar capital works generally capture public attention, I take this opportunity to highlight the work effort and initiatives by our dedicated staff.
During the past 2.5 years the Bunbury City Council has encouraged our CEO and Executive to focus on customer service and productivity - and the results have been very encouraging.
Initiatives in water saving, parks maintenance, waste management, proactive planning and development services are some of the highlights.
Our bushfire readiness, Bunbury Wildlife Park improvements, library services expansion, holiday programs at the South West Sport Centre and large range of activities at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries are other highlights.
Our customer service and media teams also perform a great job endeavouring to connect with all of our stakeholders to keep everyone as informed as possible.
We are also very fortunate to have a great band of volunteers, including our tourist information service.
All up we have close to 300 people making our community better, and I believe they do a sensational job.
The NBN was officially launched last week with 6500 properties in parts of Bunbury and Dalyellup ready to connect.
NBN officials expect this number to grow.
While various providers have been getting in touch with customers, it is important to note as properties are eligible for connection, there is an 18 months period to do so before the phone service is disconnected.
This week WA Governor Her Excellency Kerry Sanderson visited Bunbury to present a special Leadership Award to Newton Moore Senior High School, which enjoys a much deserved reputation for science education among other disciplines.
Robyn and I together with CEO Andrew Brien had the opportunity of an informal chat with the Governor during her visit.
With her professional background in transport and ports there was much to discuss including a briefing on our Waterfront project.
Council is looking forward to the State Budget next week.
More culture comes to Bunbury this week with the Australian Chamber Orchestra performing at BREC tonight and local artists exhibiting at BRAG this Friday evening. #lovebunbury
