The ‘Keep Australia Beautiful’ awards encourage, motivate and celebrate sustainability achievements of rural and regional communities across Australia.
Fifty seven towns across Western Australia entered the 2016 awards with Greenbushes among the seven short listed for the top honours.
This success is due to the commitment of many community groups in Greenbushes.

Greenbushes Tidy Towns Coordinator Leonie Eastcott said the town was selected as a state finalist in the categories of Community Action and Wellbeing, Litter Prevention and Waste Management, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Education and Heritage and Culture.
“We put forward some strong projects in each of these categories and after the first round of judging we have been selected to advance to the State Finals in five of them,” she said.
“This success is due to the commitment of many community groups in Greenbushes who work hard to deliver projects that improve the environment of Greenbushes and the wellbeing of people living in our town.
“One of our recent projects, a portable water station to reduce the amount of plastic water bottle waste at community and sporting events, was a great success at our recent Greenbushes Fun run.
“This project was funded through a Community Litter Grant from the Keep Australia Beautiful Council.
Greenbushes has been entering the Tidy Towns Awards for more than 20 years.
Among projects to be recognised this year are the Community Garden monthly morning teas, the Greenbushes Primary School bush block project, the Tidy Towns Committee’s “Water Without Waste” project and the Blackwood Basin Group’s Waterbird Project.
