Department of Mines safety director Andrew Chaplyn has confirmed a worker has been killed following an incident at the Central Norseman Gold Mine north of Esperance this morning.
St John Ambulance was called to Central Norseman Gold Mine on Tuesday at 10.50am.
Ambulance officers took the worker, a man in his 60s, to Norseman District Hospital but he could not be saved.
The worker received fatal injuries following the collapse of a bridge from the top of a settling tank.
Two Kalgoorlie-based Mines Safety Inspectors were onsite carrying out a scheduled inspection at the time of the incident and another two inspectors from Perth have been mobilised to investigate.
The department offers its sincere condolences to the worker’s family, friends and co-workers.
Attempts to contact Central Norseman Gold Mine for comment have been unsuccessful.
