The 2016 South West Football League regular season has drawn to a close, but not before dishing up one more upset.
South Bunbury have been the form side of the competition this year, losing just one match in their first 17.
But up against an Eaton Boomers outfit still hungry to prove their year hasn’t been a disaster, the Tigers had no answers as their opponents piled on seven goals in the second term to lead 8.1.49 to 7.3.45 at half time.
The Boomers were held to just one behind in the third term while South Bunbury scrambled for one goal and seven behinds.
Eaton continued to frustrate the home side, kicking four goals in the last term to prevail 12.9.81 to 10.11.71.
For finishing on top of the ladder, South Bunbury now get a week’s break and a chance to work out what needs to change before the finals.
HBL powered into the finals with plenty of momentum, downing Donnybrook by 71 points.
The Lions led by two points at quarter time and stretched the margin to 25 points at the main break.
The Dons chipped into the margin by a goal in the third term but eight fourth-quarter goals gave the Lions victory 19.21.135 to 9.10.64.
Collie have finished third on the ladder with a 101 point thumping of Carey Park on Sunday.
The Eagles led by 16 points at quarter time and kicked six unanswered goals in the second term.
Six more majors in the final term helped Collie to a 19.22.136 to 5.5.35 win.
The Eagles will now play HBL in the first qualifying final at Hands Oval on Sunday.
Harvey will be looking for an improvement next week when they face Bunbury in the first elimination final at Payne Park after the Bulldogs accounted for the Bulls by 37 points.
Bunbury kicked two goals in the first term while holding the Bulls to just two behinds. By the main break Harvey had trimmed the margin over the Bulldogs to seven points.
Six goals to one in the third term set Bunbury up for victory and when the final siren sounded they were triumphant 12.6.78 to 6.5.41.
Margaret River rounded out the year with a win over Busselton.
The Hawks led by a straight goal at half time and then stopped the Magpies from adding to their score in the third and fourth quarters. A disappointing way to end the year. The Hawks have also been below expectations in 2016 and were also kept scoreless in the final term. The full time score was 6.11.47 to 2.5.17.
