Mackensie Jolly, Erin Robertson, and Jennifer Harrison from Edith Cowan University are heading to the Southeast Asian nation to bring medical supplies to a medical system they described as basic.
“There’s a high rate of wound infection, something needs to be put in place to reduce it,” Ms Roberts said.
“We need to supply the resources for them to use, and the other part is to provide education to the community and the medical professionals.”
This is really exciting, hopefully we can learn as much from the medical professionals in Cambodia as they can learn from us.

As part of the project the group are looking to raise the funds to provide reusable dressing packs, basic grooming and hygiene products and child and maternal health products and education.
Ms Jolly said just providing toothbrushes and hygiene education would be an enormous help to the Cambodian people.
“We’re going to supply medication reusable bandages in bulk, hopefully to last the year so next year when another group of students go over there they can restock their supplies.”
The three students have been fundraising with a my cause page and will be selling chocolates, raffle tickets and a sausage sizzle at the Bunbury Markets at Queens Gardens this Saturday, September 3.
“We need to raise $4000 to provide the support we want to give,” Ms Harrison said.
So far the students have raised $2282 dollars towards their target.
The philanthropic project is apart of ECU’s Undergraduate International Placement Program which sends students to India, Thailand, Laos, Tanzania, Nepal and the Philippians to provide health care support.
The Cambodian trip marks the first time ECU has seen their students go to the country to provide medical support with the three Bunbury nurses joining five other nursing students from Perth in the trip to Cambodia.
