STUDENTS at Allanson Primary School were rocking out last week when they decorated rocks based on characters from their favourite books.
The activity coincided with the start of book week and the book fair at the school, and students from all year levels took part.
Allanson Primary School librarian Annette Annandale said the take-home project was designed to encourage the children to read.
“The idea was to create a rock as a character from a book, because reading rocks,” she said.
“They could use anything they want to decorate them as long as a rock was used.”
“The project hopefully got the students to read a book the whole way through and choose a character from that to encourage a love of reading.”
Some of the rock-characters included Captain Underpants, The Big Friendly Giant, Dumbledore, and Harry Potter.
Winners received vouchers to spend on books at the book fair which raised funds for the school to purchase new books.
