I had the privilege of being able to attend the Armistice Day Service at the war memorial on the 11th of November and on behalf of the Shire and residents lay a wreath in commemoration of this significant event in Australian history. The event was well attended by RSL veterans, Hon Robyn McSweeney MLC, members of the public and a small group of school children.
I also had an opportunity to attend the 128th Annual Bridgetown Show on November 26 and although the weather was not that kind attendances appeared to be good. It was great to see some old favourites and some new exhibitors supporting the show.
I was amazed at the quality and quantity of exhibits in Centenary Hall and my congratulations go to all the prize winners who had made such a great effort with their particular product.
Council was once again saddened, this time by the passing Sue Hodson, wife of councillor Steve Hodson after a short illness. My personal and Council condolences to Steve, the family and friends on this sad loss.
I hope you took the opportunity to have your voice heard at one of the community engagement events held in last week with respect to the review of the Shire’s Strategic Community Plan.
This plan can only be effective and meaningful when the community is fully engaged in the process. After all it will determine what the Shire will focus its development upon over the next five to ten years.
If you were unable for whatever reason to attend these events there is still an opportunity to attend some of the targeted events being held at the CWA Building on Hampton Street (next to the Caltex Service Station).
Starting on December 6 and running each day until the 10th, the targeted discussion will cover: Local Emergency Preparedness, The Future of Tourism, sport and recreation, as well as informal consultation and feedback.
With summer now here and the threat of bushfire always evident I urge everyone to be extremely careful during times of increased threat, and that you are vigilant in following any bush fire warnings that are issued.
With Christmas and the New Year just around the corner I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Christmas and New Year and urge that if you intend driving that you take care and return safely. I look forward to seeing you all fit and well in 2017.
