Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes councillor Joann Moore has got her wish after five years of advocating to have Christmas decorations for the centre of Bridgetown.
Mrs Moore, together with Shire chief executive Tim Clynch and her husband Brian, put up two Christmas trees on the shire’s balcony with Christmas lights on them and around town to brighten up Hampton St.
“It's only the beginning; I’ve been trying for a few years to get some nice lights outside. It’s starting to look good but i can't say i'm terribly impressed,” she said.
Mr Clynch said it had been kept subdued to remain within the Shire’s budget constraints.
“It’s pretty low key but that’s probably what we wanted to achieve this year, and then we can look at what we can do for future years,” he said.
Despite last year’s lights being subjected to vandalism, the Donnybrook-Balingup Shire is in the process of installing its Christmas lights.
Those on the gazebo are already in place – others around the station and entry banners will be turned on this week.
The Chamber of Commerce encourages businesses put lights along the main street of Donnybrook.
