Nationals Wheatbelt member and deputy leader Mia Davies held her launch for the upcoming election at the Northam Race Club on Thursday, February 16.
Party leader Brendon Grylls, Agricultural region member Martin Aldridge and Agricultural region candidate Leigh Ballard all supported Mia at the event.
Ms Davies has held office in the wheatbelt since March 2013 and is re-contesting her seat against Liberal candidate Bill Crabtree.
In 2013 at age 35, she became the youngest government minister ever in her party, being the minister for Water and Forestry.
The following year she added Sport and Recreation to her list of duties.
Before this, the 38-year-old represented the Agricultural Region from 2009 to 2013.
Ms Davies said what she stood for in parliament was “simple”.
“My job as the local member is to take on the issues of any constituent that walks through the door and do my very best to assist,” she said.
“More broadly, The Nationals exist to support small business owners, mums and dads, pensioners, farmers, the good honest hardworking people who are always outnumbered by their city counterparts.
“Our small team works hard to make sure country people have a voice in the State’s parliament.
“The Nationals WA policy platform is about improving outcomes for small businesses through payroll tax cuts, investing in agriculture, tourism, road safety, and telecommunications.
“We’re not backing big business and the big miners, instead, we’re taking them on to make sure they pay their fair share.”
Ms Davies said her party had been a voice for country people through Royalties for Regions.
“As a result, here in the wheatbelt, we’ve been able to deliver improved health services, upgrades to our schools, telecommunications and much more,” she said.
“I’m asking for the support of the Central Wheatbelt so we can make the miners pay their fair share, stabilise our State’s budget and continue investing in our region so everyone benefits.”
