Last Wednesday the school was presented with the cheque from South32, which was provided as part of their Junior Landcare Grants program.
The grant will see the school get involved in enhancing an area of bushland between the school and the neighbouring oval, which is managed between the school and the Shire.
The one hectare site has pockets of trees where shrubs and ground covers can be plated to create improved habitat for native wildlife, including bandicoots and black cockatoos, which have been seen in the area.
In the future, the site will provide a safe environment for both students and community to visit.
These projects are aimed at providing learning opportunities for children, to be educated about our natural environment in an outdoor classroom and learn in a hands-on way.
The South32 Junior Landcare Grants program is distributing ten grants of up to $5,000 to schools in the Collie and Boddington regions of Western Australia and the Illawarra region of New South Wales.
