YouthCARE
The YouthCARE group will be fundraising at Sunday’s markets at the Goods Shed, providing a variety of food.
Pumpkin soup, sausage in a bun, bacon and egg burgers, vegie patties, crumbed potato wedges, Ollie Bollien Dutch donuts and nude dried fruit (no chemicals involved), will all be on offer.
You can have a snack and browse the many and varied stalls, and maybe also get tea or coffee at the restaurant car.
Allanson markets will also be open on Sunday, with lots of stalls there.
They promise a few quirky unusual stalls among the variety, so do have a look there too.
Both markets operate from 8am to 12 noon.
The Collie Cycle Club still has spaces for stalls at its markets on Saturday, August 19 from 10.30am to 3.30pm.
Landscapes on show
The exhibition, Forms of Landscape, is currently showing at the Art Gallery.
For centuries, artists have been interpreting the landscape, and that this trend is still popular is shown by the many photographs people take.
It is worth having a look at this exhibition to see modern trends.
The Gallery is open from Thursday to Monday, from 10am to 4pm.
The Collie Museum is just across the road, and has similar opening hours, so have a look there too.
Cycle race
We have had a week or two of ‘Donnybrook’ weather, to whet our appetites for the big bike race.
There will be an air of excitement in Throssell Street on Saturday, August 19, as the professionals line up for the classic race, but there will be plenty of cycling before that race.
The participation event is proving more and more popular each year, and organisers are hoping for a big turnout this year.
The introduction of markets this year will add to the spectacle.
Mobile Service Centre
The Australian Mobile Service Centre will visit Collie on Monday, August 14.
It will be located at the PCYC car park from 9.30am to 4pm, offering advice on a whole range of Federal Government services.
The Australian Taxation Office will have advisers giving information on tax and superannuation.
Advice will also be available for older Australians, students, job seekers, people with disabilities, carers, farmers and self employed people.
For more information, go to humanservices.gov.au, then to mobile services, or call 132 316.
FestivArty
FestivArty is only a few weeks away, with the promise of lots to see and do.
The biggest draw card is probably the arts and crafts exhibition, but there is also something for writers, musicians, performers, and people of all ages.
The street fair will have loads of attractions and Forrest Street will turn into a huge bustling market-cum- entertainment area.
The weekend of September 9 and 10 starts the week-long celebration.
Sharing the Dignity
The Collie community has been urged to donate sanitary items for Share the Dignity’s #DignityDrive in August.
Collection bins have been placed at Terry White Chemmart and Woolworths for people to donate throughout the month.
The sanitary items will be distributed to organisations in Collie such as St Vincent de Pauls, Anglicare and Collie Family Centre.
Share the Dignity volunteer Peta Palmer told the Mail there had been a significant decrease in donations between 2016 and April this year.
