SATURDAY hosted the annual hockey grand final day. This year a new concept of an Over 25 versus an Under 25 exhibition match was trialed, and by all accounts it was a success.

A few past stars of the competition came out of semi-retirement, helping the Over 25’s to show the youngsters hockey is not all about speed.
The Overs had a 3-2 lead at half-time and looked to be tiring but it all seemed to be ploy to lure the youngsters into a false sense of security, as they ran away with the match in the second half scoring another five goals to end the game 8-2.
Five goals to Jason Payne led the way in what was a best on ground performance by the former multiple time highest goal scorer.
The grand final was looking to be a tough tussle between the two form teams of the competition, Mustangs and Centaurs Green, and it did not disappoint.
Mustangs jumped out of the blocks early with a goal in the first five minutes, only to have Centaurs answer back within minutes.
Centaurs then seemed to take the ascendancy and controlled the play for the rest of the half adding two more goals to take a 3-1 lead into the half.
The second half was a more even affair, both teams had times of dominance scoring a goal apiece but the deficit was too much for Mustangs to overcome with Centaurs eventually coming away with a 4-2 win on the back of the Michael Aramini medal winner Gareth Shepherdson’s three goals.
Kyle Marley took out a very close fairest and best for the season with a best on ground performance in the final game of the year to win by two votes over Jack Wilson.
Jack also won the fairest and best in the Challenge Cup held earlier in the year. Highest goalscorer was won by Gareth Old scoring a total of 19 goals during the season.

Finals
Congratulations to all the winners from the CWHA finals. All games played were very close and show cased exciting hockey.
The association thanks all the umpires for not only the finals but throughout the season, including the green shirt umpires and a special thanks to the out going umpires coordinator Cara Swan for all the time and effort she has put into the role.
Many thanks to all the teams, players, coaches, managers etc for making this a great season.
Special mention to the CWHA executive for all the time and effort they give to the running of the association and all those that hold positions in the association; without you there would be no association.

16 School Girl’s
The association congratulates Emily Antonovich on being selected in the 16 School Girl’s team. The team will compete in Adelaide in the Pacific School Games from December 1-10.
Golf – men’s
Sweet swinging Pete wins
In a field of 41 players Peter Coombs compiled an excellent round to score 38 points to win the 18-hole stableford event sponsored by the Collie Vets.
The sweet swinging Pete had the narrowest of points to spare from a trio of players on 37.
Chris Connell won the second place trophy provided by the sponsors on a countback from visitor John Reeves and Colin Giblett.
Ron Annandale, Alan Kent and Trevor Lawrence all had 34, followed by Mick Finlay 33 and Rob Cavanagh 32.
The ladies had three players play and the ladies captain Dot Lawrence took home the cookies with 35 points.
Novelties winners: No. 4 Chris Connell and Vicki Graham, No. 6 Wayne Waywood, No. 7 Colin Giblett, No. 14 Trevor Lawrence, No. 15 Kevin Ireland No. 18 Ray Cooper.
On Tuesday 25 players took to the Fairways in beautiful conditions. The winner in what can only be described as a return to form as Country Week approaches, was David Laird returning 38 points.
Second place went to Jeff Crowe 35, followed by Neil Motion and Steven Ireland 32 and Steven Farquhar 31. The best vet on the day went to Trevor McCormick with 34 points.
Thursday scroungers saw Ray Cooper salute the judge in a field of 42. Coops had 19 followed by Trevor Graham and John Jackson both on 17, and Frank Battista, Peter Ellery and Danny Cheng all on 16.
Danny Cheng won the gross with a three over par 39.

Golf – ladies
DONNA Smith blitzed the field on Wednesday, September 6 with the outstanding score of +2, 4 shots ahead of next best score.
Donna’s great effort earned her the A-grade trophy with Bev Moyses taking second place with -2, on a countback from Dot Lawrence, also -2.
Third place went to Cara Swan on -4, on three-way countback from Michelle Tate, followed by Angela Ireland.
Sue Earnshaw continued her good form to win the B-grade with -4 on a countback from Lee Massara, also – 4.
Third place went to Sandra Brittain, returning from holiday, on -5. Next came Annette Atherton with -8 on a countback from Pat Booth -8. The nine-hole winner was Olnar Turner with -5.
Novelties were won by N. Lynn (Boulevarde), S. Brittain (Sportfirst), V. Graham (Love and Flour) and C. Swan (Shoeland).
Monthly medal winners for August were: A-grade Dot Lawrence and B-grade Sue Earnshaw.
Bowls
King Scroungers – August 25
Held recently at Eaton was the King Scroungers where all winners from each club go to Eaton for the annual King Scroungers. From Collie Brian Bass, Ray Colgan and Jeff Crowe.
Collie came away with the King scroungers win and the odds and sods winner.

Pine Hauliers Meat Pack – September 6
Fourteen groups of pairs played in the Pine Hauliers meat pack with the weather bringing them out from the fires. Only three shots separated the winner and second. Good bowls was played and enjoyed by all.
1st: Tom Edwards and Valdes Brojanoski with 4 points plus 12; 2nd: John Waywood and Tom Gale with 4 points plus 9; Equal 3rd: Wayne Stocks with Glenice Kaurin and Kevin McKenzie with Steve Matthews all on 2 points plus 6.
Saturday Pennants – September 9
Two teams from Collie played in the Boyanup Saturday Pennants. Team 1 was Lyn Mitchell, Glenice Kaurin, Margaret Young and Vicki Daniel.
Team 2 was Kath Cluning, Kerry Scott, Maud Taylor and Kath McElroy. Both teams had wins against Harvey and Busselton. There are two more Saturdays to play.
Team 1 – Lyn Mitchells team won 22 to 14; Team 2 – Kath Clunings team won 23 to 9.
McCafe Sunday Scroungers – September 10
A pretty good roll up of scroungers last Sunday. The weather was great and a good day for bowls. Into the final went Brian Bass, Phil Warburton, Rod Cordery and Kerry Scott.
On Sunday, September 17 the wind-up for the winter scroungers will start at the usual time and odds and sods will be played. Following the finals a barbecue will be catered for.

Men’s Triples Championships – September 14
Nominations are now being called for, for the Men's Championship Triples being held on September 14 and 15. Nominations on board at the club. Games will start at 9am and BYO lunch.
