Fire and Rescue Service from Collie, Allanson, Cardiff and Worsley were called to a fire at an old mill building on Monday morning just after 7am.
Collie Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services Brigade captain Julian Martin said getting the fire under control presented some challenges due to the condition the building was in prior to the fire.
“The building was in a state of disrepair prior to the fire. It was quite heavily effected by termite activity,” he said.
Mr Martin said another challenge they faced was the fact they had no access to a water supply in the area.
“We mobilised bush fire brigades within the shire and DPAW sent two of their heavy tankers and they also sent a 22 thousand litre prime mover and trailer, and the shire sent a 12,000 litre water tanker,” he said.
Police have footage of a vehicle leaving the scene, which was handed in by a member of the public who was flying an ultralight aircraft.
Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire- but it is believed to be deliberately lit.
