A HUGE crowd of bowlers took to the greens for a different format of draw the first game keep your score and a redraw on the second game and add your scores up.

All who attended enjoyed the games as there was many winners on the raffles and the games. With all the prizes every one had a good day.

Pennants – October 9

TO all players playing pennants commence on October 17.

Selectors are now looking at teams for the coming season.

Ladies also commence on October 17. Please check your boards for where you are playing or placed. 

Yarloop – October 9

TWO triples teams travelled to Yarloop for the 2 by 5 end game and a tiebreakers if one all.

This was the order of the day. Both teams won one, lost one had and a tie breaker

Gary Keep, Jamie Parker and Ron Guilfoyle, Jeff Crowe, Max Cubic and John Waywood all played in their triples. Both teams had a hard day on the greens.

A-grade T20

COLLIE’S A-grade cricket return got underway on Saturday with a Twenty20 game against Leschenault Cricket Club.

The game appeared in jeopardy with a shower passing through 45 minutes before start of play.

Luckily it passed through without pushing the start of play back.

Newly appointed A-grade captain Greg Tomasini did not have the best of starts leading the team, losing the toss and having the Collie team sent in to bat on a wicket that favoured the bowlers.

Tom Plummer and Bailey Maloney opened the batting and got off to a good start with Plummer hitting the first ball for four.

Conditions were tough for the batsmen with the ball holding in the wicket and Plummer, Maloney and Brayden Kent were all dismissed cheaply.

With the score at 3-13, young Austin Kent and T20 specialist Matt Tanner had a handy 42-run partnership until Tanner missed a straight one and was bowled for 22.

Tomasini, failed to stay with Austin and was dismissed for three with Austin following soon after for a well-made 26.

Chappell, Hislop, Parkin and Borrett saw out the innings and got the team to 8/86 after the 20 overs. 

Collie bowled very well for the first game of the year. Jason Borrett looked sharp with good pace, control and swing.

Ayden “Binger” Parkin steamed in well and deserved his wicket.

Brayden Kent bowled tightly with Matt Tanner to keep Collie in the game for as long as possible.

Tyson Hayes was very hard to get away on the slow wicket with his medium pace bowling. 

Although the bowling and ground fielding was great from Collie the most important aspect, catching was lacking with three straight forward chances going down.

It was a good fielding effort from Collie and another 20 runs with some safer hands and the game would have been down to the wire.

Leschenault chased down the total with two and a half overs to spare and three wickets down.

Best Bowlers: B. Kent 1 for 6 from 3; M. Tanner 1 for 11 from 2.3; A. Parkin 1 for 18 from 2.

Best Batsmen: A. Kent 26; M. Tanner 22; R. Chappell 8.

Pine Hauliers A-grade T20 Player of the Day: M. Tanner - 42 pts.

C-grade T20

Colts started off well with their batting but to Collie's credit they managed to keep the runs down.

Bill Bebbington took the first wicket with a well held catch in deep outfield by Jacob Denholm.

Brother Rory Bebbington bowled well to take the next wicket.

Nigel Irvine took a good stumping from Denholm. 

Ryan Loxton  went on to take a wicket in his last over.

Captain Jarved Dallywater took two catches and had a direct hit to get a run out. Colts finished 5/131.

Connor Mumme had a great start with the bat for Collie and in the third over Collie was 34 until Dallywater was caught behind.

Luke McCormick played a steady role in the middle and Dale Elvins managed some quick runs towards the end.

Collie fell short, all out for 90 in the 18th over.

ON Friday, October 6 Collie Golf Club successfully hosted a South West Ladies Open Day, generously sponsored by the Dorsett family, who have had a very long association with the Collie Golf Club.

Seventy-four players took part in the Canadian Stableford event, with 14 clubs represented.

The nett winners were Shirley Sanderson and Wendy Tuckett from Boyup Brook with 39 points.

Second place went to Collie players Kath Alcorn and Val Riley with 37, followed by another local pair of Sandra Brittain and Deb VanVollenstee with 36.

The locals continued to perform with fourth place going to Vicki Graham and Debra Martin with 34.

Marg Scott and Trish Thomas from Waroona took fifth place with 33, on countback.

The best gross score of the day went to Annike Meens and J. Rashbrook from Bunbury with 91, followed by Lee Fitzgerald and Annie Simms from Donnybrook with 92.

Third and fourth in the gross went to Robyn Peet and Michelle Thompson from Harvey on 93, winning count back from Glenice Cass and Coral Donnerly  from Capel, also 93.

Locals Cara Swan and Lee Massara took fifth place with 94.

Clayton Flynn holds on for win

In Blustery conditions a field of 48 competed for the stableford event sponsored by Brian Banks, Mick Pokrywka, Neil Clarke and Eric Annandale.

After a week in Perth playing golf, Clayton Flynn returned home in fine style to win the event with 40 points.

Flynn kept the ball down the middle all day and found some magic with the flat stick to hold on for the narrowest of wins.

A point further back was Kyle Hulls who returned 39 and claimed the runners-up trophy.

Kyle had a day out on the back nine but could not sustain the momentum going into the front nine.

John Michalak collected the third place trophy on offer with 38 and same story as Kyle had a big score on the back nine holes but also lost momentum.

Ed Riley was next in with 37 followed by John Wray, Trevor Lawrence and George Newlands all on 36, Ken Smallwood, Ron Annandale, Garry Beard and Darren Obrien all on 35.

The trophy donors also put a gross trophy on and that went to Garry Beard with a 76 off the stick.

The sponsors also kindly put on a NAGA trophy which went to Ray Cooper who was very gracious in receiving the prize.

ON Tuesday 36 players went to battle for the club sponsored Leisure Day trophy.

Ray Cooper found no trouble on Tuesday unlike Saturday to win the event with 37.

Trevor McCormick was runner up with 35 followed by brad Swan on 35, Jim Hine 34, Garry Beard 33, Steven Ireland, Garry Old and Peter Coombs rounded out the vouchers on 32.

The best vet on the day went to Kalev Kutt with 35 points.

Thursday Scroungers attracted a good field of 48 golfers.

In a close contest Trevor Graham won the spin of the wheel from Steve Gianola both on 20.

Chris Stewart and Ed Riley both had 19 followed by Stephen Farquhar 18, Alby Hunter, Mick Pokrywka, Garry Beard and Hugh Annandale all on 17.

Chris Stewart returned the best gross score of an even round of 36.

Next week: Two-man Ambrose for Pirtek; Tuesday leisure day and Thursday scroungers.

THE Quit Collie Speedway season gets underway Saturday, October 21 with the Curley Fishlock Memorial.

Smarter than Smoking New Star Junior Sedans, Smarter than Smoking Top Star Junior Sedans, Street Stock and Production Sedans will all be chasing their first seasonal points.

Racing will start at 6pm with great track-side parking available along with some grand stand seating. The Quit Collie Speedway provides for a great family night out and a lot of exciting racing. Spectators can view the entire race track watching every exciting moment of the racing.

Several Collie competitors have been honing their skills racing at Ellenbrook speedway and Kellerberrin during the winter months.

There is no doubt that Production Sedans will be the division to watch this season as in January the State Title will be decided in Collie.

Leading up to the end of January, drivers are expected to travel to Collie in bigger numbers than normal as they work on the set up of their cars and learn what they can about the Collie track.

Street Stock will see most of the regular drivers back on the track with a keen contest for season points from a list of drivers who have all got the ability to win races.

Legend cars are set to debut at Collie on the opening night. These cars are built on a motorbike engine and are very quick and entertaining. There is only a small field in WA as the division is still developing. Legend cars are expected to make several appearances throughout the season.

The seasons race dates are October 21 Curley Fishlock Memorial Club night, November 11 with Speedcars and Wingless Sprintcars, November 25 will see the Collie Production Sedan Championship decided and will be a great rehearsal for the State title in January.

December 9 is set to be an all bike night with Solos, Sidecars and Stock bikes. December 16 is the annual Christmas Cup competition along with the first round of the GWN Modified Production series. The Collie Team’s Challenge is again run on Christmas Cup night where drivers form their own teams, scoring points from their individual racing. Teams consist of three drivers, each from a different racing division.

Friday, January 19 will be a big double header with the Collie Street Stock Championships as well as the USA Late Model Tour. As many as six USA competitors are set to head to Collie for this event making it the biggest Late Model event ever at Collie.

The State Title for Production Sedans will be a three-night program with practice on January 25, followed by Heat races on January 26; the final round of heats and finals on January 27.

February 10 becomes another Club night with a feature division yet to be decided. February 24 will see the return of V8 Super Sedans.

March 10 will provide the best of Speedcar racing as the 30th Annual Lawrie Matthews Memorial is decided. The final night of March 24 will again produce a set of feature races to send the season out on a high: the Smarter than Smoking Junior Sedan Prince of the Road over 20 laps, the Race of Champions 20 lap, the Street Stock Classic over 40 laps, then the final race of the season, the Bill Sibbald King of the Road over 40 laps for Production Sedans.
