The Collie Justice of the Peace Services have moved from their former premises at the Margaretta Wilson Centre to their new premises at the Collie Courthouse.
Changes at the Margaretta Wilson Centre prompted the move of the signing service. Collie Justice of the Peace Geoff Wilks said the centre was currently operating on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9.30am to 12pm.
“There’s a lot of stuff we sign for- probates, power of attorney, licencing, there’s a lot of stuff we deal with here,” he said.
“We are going to be making a new roster after Christmas where we may be able to incorporate Thursday into the roster.”
Mr Wilks said in Collie there were currently around 10 JP’s, but only seven who were keeping the signing centre going.
To become a JP you must be an Australian citizen with a minimum of 12 months residence in Western Australia, enrolled on the State electoral roll, of good character and reputation, including (preferably) a record of community service, and over 18 and under 65 years of age.
People interested in becoming a JP can speak to staff at the Collie Courthouse about the processes and training or visit http://www.courts.dotag.wa.gov.au for more information.
