Larry Whiteside has expertly directed pedestrians and drivers on Paris Road for close to nine years.
“When this crossing became available it was offered to me as my crossing, and so I have been here ever since,” he said.
Mr Whiteside started out in a casual role before working his way up over the past 20 years.
He has protected crossings in areas such as Bunbury and Treendale during his time.
The lollipop man said his highest priorities were to look out for pedestrians and help them safely cross the road.
“It’s very full-on with the traffic, especially with parents picking up their children and people going backwards and forwards to work,” he said.
“The best thing I find with the crossing is to keep the traffic flowing.”
Mr Whiteside said he made a point of getting to know each student and parent.
District Traffic Coordinator Sergeant Dave Hurdle said the lollipop people serve some of the busiest crossings in the Bunbury area.
He said without them parents would not be confident that their kids would be able to cross safely.
He added Mr Whiteside was someone everyone knew and was very good at managing the traffic flow.
