Victoria and South West NSW were hit the worst by heavy downpours of rain on Friday and Saturday.

Bureau of Meteorology Senior Metorologist for severe weather events, James Taylor, said it was a significant rain event for any time of the year let alone summer.
“Overall it is a significant event for any time of year, this time of year is a time when it's potentially more likely to be drawing tropical moisture southwards,” he told Fairfax Media.
“Given the length of the rainfall records that were made in those regions, the event is unprecedented.”
The biggest event according to Mr Taylor was the rain in Echuca, Victoria where a rain record over 100 years old was broke.
“Echuca had a 159 year record that was broken, they recorded 123 millimeters up to 9am on Saturday, that’s the all time highest daily record for any month,” he said.
The rain also hit Melbourne very hard. Mr Taylor said the Eastern suburbs recorded high significant rain.
“The highest in the Eastern suburbs went up to Furney Creek who recorded 90 millimetres up to 7pm [Saturday night] of intense rain,” he said.
“Sort of rainfall rate we'd only expect very rarely in Melbourne.”

In the south west of NSW, there were many huge rain events.
“Significant rainfall mostly associated with thunderstorm activity across western NSW, including west slopes of the great divide,” Mr Taylor said.
“Flood warnings were downgraded today. At Murrumbidgee there's a final flood warning issued [Sunday] morning.”
Wagga Wagga State Emergency Service in NSW received calls for more than 115 jobs across Wagga, The Rock, Tumut, Gundagai and Coolamon on Saturday.
Leaking roofs and flooding were the biggest issues.
In Forbes, NSW, a music festival was moved to a local establishment.
The second day of VANFEST music festival was cancelled with due to ongoing wet weather.
Mark Furze, Manalion, Ox, Tigertown, Wilsonn and other special guests who were to appear at VANFEST played at the Vandenberg Hotel.
In another bizarre weather event, Tasmania has seen snow fall on their third day of summer.
