The City of Bunbury council has given the thumbs up for a new medical centre in Glen Iris.
The council voted 12 to one in favour of the revised plans for a medical lot for Lot 7, Vittoria Road.
The council called for a landscaping plan – detailing changes to ground levels, paved areas and vegetation – to be submitted to council before the project’s commencement.
The plans included four consulting rooms, a pathology room and pathology reception area, and 17 parking bays.
The centre will be in operation from 7.30am to 8.00pm on Mondays and Fridays, 7.30am to 5pm from Tuesday to Thursday, and 8.30am to 12:30pm on Saturdays.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said the medical centre/general practice’s inclusion would greatly benefit the area.
Residents Roger Veen and Rebecca Olsthoorn addressed council on Tuesday, November 28 in relation to the proposed medical lot’s impact on traffic in the area.
Mr Brennan added the road would be able to handle increased traffic.
“We acknowledge there are concerns expressed by the people who made the deputations about traffic speed and volume,” he said.
“However, we do rely on the science and the science is that the road, at the moment, can handle 15 to 20,000 vehicles a day and at the moment it is tracking at around 7000 to 8000 a day.”
Mr Brennan said, should traffic volume increase, the council may see fit to install roundabouts or widen the road.
He said roundabouts on Vittoria Road have been effective in slowing traffic.
