Bunbury Police have charged a man following an incident in Usher on Thursday 28 December 2017, in which a man was assaulted and a dog was seriously injured.
About 9:15am, a 25-year-old man was walking his German Shepherd dog along Larsson Place in Usher when he was approached by two men known to him.
It will be alleged the men exited the vehicle they were in, with one of the men being armed with a metal baseball bat.
It will also be alleged the victim was tackled to the ground and assaulted by one of the men, while the other attacked the dog with the baseball bat.
Allegedly, the man armed with the baseball bat also attempted to strike the victim with the bat.
The victim managed to break free and was briefly chased by the men.
The victim returned to the scene and members of the public attended to the injured dog.
The dog was taken to a vet, and as a result of the attack it was required to have one eye removed.
The incident was reported to WA Police Force, and an investigation was commenced.
Two men were arrested as part of the investigation on December 30.
A 29-year-old Withers man has been charged with Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm, Cruelty to Animals, and Being Armed in a Way That May Cause Fear.
He is due to appear in the Bunbury Magistrates Court on Monday, January 8 2018.
The second man was released without charge, pending further investigation.
