The Shire of Collie council voted to renew the sub-lease of the Collie RC Club and its track at the Collie BMX grounds in Wallsend Street at the latest council meeting on January 23.
The Collie RC Club had previously been sub-leasing the space from the Collie BMX Club for the last 12 months, where it shares the canteen facilities. The club had also built the South West’s first radio control racing track and attracted racers from across the state.
The shire’s Director of Corporate Services Allison Fergie said during the meeting that there had been no reported problems with the Collie RC Club’s occupation of the space during that time and that vandalism in the area had decreased since the group had moved in.
The Collie BMX Club had requested that a sub-lease of three years be granted, however the shire council voted to extend the sub-lease until April 30, 2020 to make it consistent with the BMX club’s lease.
