The annual feast day celebrations at St Brigid’s Catholic Church was held last Thursday.
Parish secretary Marie Hicks said it was the first time the church was able to celebrate the occasion with the new six-foot tall sculpture of St Brigid that the parish received late last year.
Ms Hicks said the sculpture was the idea of Father Jaybee Bonghanoy and was carved from a tree in the Philippines.
The church also had another reason to celebrate, as the feast day mass was ‘the first major parish event’ led by the new priest Father Nic Lim, who replaced Father Jaybee less than a month ago.
Father Nic said he was excited to get started and meet the community in Collie. He had previously spent five years at the St Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Busselton.
The parishioners marked the special occasion with a multicultural feast in the Parish Hall after mass.
Foods from all the countries represented by members of the church were provided.
Father Nic said it was good to see members of other churches who came along for the event, along with a couple of visitors from overseas.
