Sydney's Taronga Zoo meerkat gang has increased to 18 after the birth of two pups - making it the largest group of meerkats at the zoo since 2000.
The pups, which were born at the end of January, are developing quickly and are starting to venture out of their dens to play peek-a-boo with visitors at the zoo.
"The pups are now standing on their hind legs, which will play an important role during sentry duty watches when they become adults," zoo carnivore keeper Maz Boz said in a statement on Tuesday.
"They may be young, but they're already showing signs of their own little personalities. They are both quite outgoing, adventurous and inquisitive jumping on the other meerkats to play."
As the pair's gender is yet to be determined they are without names, but it's likely their names will be taken from the Swahili language to reflect their African heritage.
This is the sixth litter of pups for mother Narobi and marks the highest number of meerkats at the zoo since 2000, a Taronga Zoo spokeswoman told AAP on Tuesday.
