While there are several national anti-bullying groups lobbying the federal government to make changes, there is a lot that can be done at a community and personal level too.
The WA Labor government encourages everyone to make use of the online resources available.
Available online resources include:
- Bullying No Way! website by the Safe and Supportive School Communities (SSSC) working group offers a range on online resources. https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/
- Cyber Savvy website shares cyber safety and image sharing knowledge, cyber safety attitudes, online ethics and ways to deal with image sharing. http://cybersavvy.com.au/
- The ‘Image Up’ app allows users to post images to multiple social media accounts at once while showing short videos every time you post, reminding about the consequences.
Member for Collie-Preston Mick Murray said the wealth of knowledge online can help children and parents identify, deal with and avoid bullying.
“The terrible consequences of what bullying can do has been widely discussed in recent weeks, warranting a reminder to our community about what resources are available,” he said.
“I encourage parents to not only look out for signs their children may be victims of bullying but to also educate their kids about how much damage being a bully can cause.
“We can all do our bit to stop bullying online and prevent another tragedy in our community.”
