Shire of Capel has aimed to improve services, facilities and programs to make the community more friendly for the ageing population.
At the February Council meeting, the draft Age Friendly Community Strategy was adopted in preparation for seeking public and relevant government agency comment.
Shire of Capel Chief Executive Officer Paul Sheedy said the plan indicated that overall the Shire is meeting age friendly standards in a number of facilities and programs.
He said communication and information, access to buildings and community support and health services were identified as areas for improvement, which are part of key strategies in the plan.
“Council recognises the importance of our ageing communities and this strategy ensures we have a plan to improve our facilities, services and programs for the ageing generation,” he said.
“This plan identifies the barriers that exist to the ageing community and looks at how we can address these in outdoor spaces, buildings, transport and social interactions.
“I encourage the community to have their say on this strategy.”
Shire residents can access a copy of the strategy at the Shire office and in Shire libraries.
