Reigning Women’s South West Football League premiers Bunbury Bulldogs have taken out the 2018 Brooke Fiore for Hair and Beauty Day Spa Women’s Knock-Out Pre-Season Carnival.
On Saturday, April 7, the team began its 2018 campaign at PC Payne Park against the Busselton Magpies.
Once again, Busselton was no match for the home side. Bunbury reached a one-point lead at half time before running out to a 5.3.33 to 0.0.0 win.
Carey Park delivered a four-goal haul to clinch a 4.7.31 to 0.1.1 victory over HBL.
Soon after, the Lions crumbled under pressure against Busselton. The Magpies proudly celebrated after defeating HBL 7.5.47 to 1.1.7.
Bunbury and Carey Park went head-to-head for a place in the pre-season competition’s grand final.
After leading by three points at the main break, Bunbury upped the ante and kicked three goals in the second.
On its home ground, the Bulldogs delivered a 3.8.26 to 0.0.0 result.
At Hands Oval, South Bunbury Tigers faced off against 2017 preliminary final rival Harvey Bulls. A second-half goal from Bethany Bond helped South Bunbury to a 1.3.9 to 0.2.2 win.
The two new SWFL women’s teams, Eaton Boomers and Collie Eagles, took to the field for the second game.
Both sides were evenly matched throughout the game, before a second-half goal secured a 1.1.7 to 0.1.1 win for the Boomers.
The enthusiastic Collie side was then obliterated by Harvey. A four-goal second half helped the Bulls to a 6.3.39 to 0.1.1 victory.
After kicking six goals in the first half, South Bunbury cruised to a 64-point win over Eaton.
The grand final saw 2018’s first derby clash between Bunbury and South Bunbury.
After a three-goal haul in the first half, Bunbury maintained possession and shut down the Tigers’ forward line.
Following the 4.7.29 to 1.3.7 win, the Bulldogs lifted the trophy in front of SWFL officials and delighted fans.
