A family from Bunbury's sister city, Setagaya, recently experienced the sights and sounds of the region.
Through the city’s ongoing relationship with Setagaya and the student goodwill tour, the Nemoto family – Masakiyo Nemoto (father), Minaho Nemoto (mother), eldest son Yudai Nemoto (13), daughter Tomone Nemoto (8), and youngest son Taichi Nemoto (6) – visited the Bunbury-Geographe area in March.
The family experienced the city’s attractions including Koombana Bay and the Bunbury Wildlife Park.
It was a great demonstration of the value of our sister city relationship.
- Gary Brennan
The Nemotos had housed Bunbury resident Cameron Gee for the student goodwill tour in 2016.
Indiana Gee participated in the 2017 tour.
Mr Brennan said the sister city program has created strong ties with other countries as well as life-long friendships.
“It was a great demonstration of the value of our sister city relationship,” he said.
“You get these friendships that start with school exchanges and become long lasting.”
He said the family felt overwhelmed during their visit to Australia.
Mr Brennan and other City of Bunbury representatives will visit Setagaya as well as Jiaxing, China in May.
The five-day trip will formally acknowledge the 25-year relationship between Bunbury and Setagaya.
