Collie’s Jesse Munday and Cruz McCagh travelled to Perth last month to take part in the Weet-bix Kids TRYathlon and picked up a second-place finish.
Jesse and Cruz competed in the team event for kids aged 10 and under, racing against other competitors from around the state on March 25.
The race began with Cruz swimming 75 metres before he tagged in Jesse, who took part in the three kilometre bike ride before they finished the race together with a 500 metre run.
Stacey Munday said said her son Jesse had picked up the ‘triathlon bug’ after competing in the Collie Adventure Race last year although both boys had always been competitive and active in wide range of sports.
She said the result was great to see considering the commitment they showed in preparing for the race.
Ms Munday said both boys had shown ‘special qualities for boys their age’ when they pushed themselves after school and on weekends to better their times in trials at Minninup Pool.
The Weet-bix Kids TRYathlon aims to get kids involved in physical activity and is more focussed on getting children to have fun than competing.
Ms Munday said both boys loved taking part in the race and wanted to have another go. She also said they were excited to have the chance to meet former cricketer Mitchell Johnson.
