Funding for upgrades to the shared path on Estuary Drive will go a long way to improving safety for local cyclists, Member for Bunbury Don Punch MLA said.
“The Estuary Drive Shared Path is the only safe off road facility linking Bunbury and Eaton so I am really pleased the McGowan Government has recognised its importance by providing $85,000 to help lift its standard”, he said.
“The path is part of the Greater Bunbury Cycle Path Network and records some of the highest use of any long distance path in the Greater Bunbury area but is currently in poor condition.
“This funding really is responding to a priority project for cyclists in the Bunbury Geographe area.
Mr Punch congratulated the City of Bunbury for putting this project forward for funding consideration and for agreeing to meet half of the cost of these improvements.
“This is an example of State and Local governments working together to meet the needs of the community,” he said.
“At the last budget the McGowan Government allocated $129 million over four years to improve cycling infrastructure and to see Bunbury receive funding from this commitment is a fantastic outcome.”
