Two of Bunbury’s Little Athletics titans will soon compete on the national stage.
Kyle Hussey, 13, and Gabe Doolan, 12, will face off against some of the country’s toughest young athletes during the Australian Little Athletics Championships, held on the Gold Coast on April 28 and 29.
“I’m really happy because it is my first State representative team,” Hussey said.
“I felt surprised because I was not expecting to be selected.
“I guess I was lucky enough to get picked because there were a lot of other kids they could have chosen.”
Doolan was proud to represent WA and wear the State’s signature black and gold attire.
“It feels good, when you go over there it feels like you have made it,” Doolan said.
Hussey and Doolan’s rigorous training schedules led them to this year’s Little Athletics State Track and Field Championships.
The pair did enough to qualify for the WA team for this year’s national competition.
Hussey won gold in the Under 13 Boys’ Walk at the State Championships.
Prior to the State event, he collected gold in the U13B Javelin, Bronze in the 1500m, and Bronze in the high jump at the 2018 Country Championships.
Doolan picked up State Championship silver medals in the U13B 100m and 200m events.
Doolan also won four gold and two silver medals at this year’s Country Championships.
Last year, the 12-year-old was brought into the State Development Squad.
