It is not known if a man who was fined $2590.85 on Friday, for catching 28 undersized crabs in Erskine, will pay his hefty fine since he has recently been deported.
Yumeng Wang was convicted in his absence at the Mandurah Magistrates Court on Friday, after being found with a bucket of Blue Manna Crabs at Len Howard Reserve, on December 31, 2017.
Wang was found in possession of a total of 30 crabs, exceeding the daily bag limit of 10 per person, per day.
The court was told the undersized crabs measured an average size of 102.3 millimetres.
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development spokesman Ashley Malone said Wang was located in February at Yongah Hill Detention Centre, after he provided false details to the police in December.
In an interview conducted at the detention centre, Wang admitted to catching the crabs and said he measured their length with his hand, Mr Malone said.
Wang had since been deported, and DPIRD was unsure of the reason, he said.
Mr Malone said he did not know if the fines would be paid, but they would be activated if Wang returned to Australia.
Magistrate Mark Millington ordered he pay a $500 fine for providing false details, $500 for catching undersized crabs with a $1400 mandatory penalty and $190.85 costs.
