A hub for confectionery delights has been given the chance to reach people from all over Western Australia.
Lotsa Lollies confectionery store, based out of the Gingerbread House in Boyanup, recently received a tender to supply chocolate, confectionery treats, slices, cakes, and cookies to punters at Optus Stadium.
Perth-based food outlets Morley Growers Market and Classic Meats have also received tenders to supply goods at the venue.
The producers will supply to the stadium as part of their new, three-year contracts.
Since the tender was passed, Lotsa Lollies has hired more staff and opened a store in Perth.
Lotsa Lollies co-owners James Earley and Julie Shadbolt said they were ready to showcase their produce to the bustling crowds moving through the stadium.
Morley Growers Market and Classic Meats source the majority of their produce from the South West and Wheatbelt areas.
Morley Growers Market accounts manager Sarah Vitsas said the opportunity promoted the state’s best fruit and vegetable produce.
“We love sourcing predominantly South West produce and try to gather as much as we can from the Great Southern,” she said.
“Through developing these relationships, we’ve been able to support growers who are able to plant stuff for us.
“They are employing staff, we’re employing staff...and we get it all from WA now which is just amazing.”
Classic Meats branch manager Ricky King said they will provide the stadium with top-notch beef, lamb, pork and bacon from the region.
Minister for Sport Recreation Mick Murray visited Lotsa Lollies last week to congratulate representatives from the three winning outlets.
Mr Murray said the stores were part of the government’s pledge to source local produce and producers in WA.
“The contracts coming out of Perth Stadium give local people the chance to bid for those jobs,” he said.
“We can prove that we can match the city, whether it would be through meat, pastries or other terrific produce.
“We can get a slice of the action in regards to something that is happening in Perth.”
